The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 is a piece of legislation passed by the Congress of the United States and signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 6, 2020. The legislation came in response to a growing worldwide crisis centered around the spread of COVID-19, or the coronavirus disease, a sickness that appeared in China in late 2019 and spread throughout the world in the following months. The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act provided for $8.3 billion in emergency funding to help manage the pandemic. Of this total, $6.7 billion (81 percent) was earmarked for domestic use while $1.6 billion (19 percent) was allocated for international use.
