  • Application Filed: April 26, 2011
  • Assignees: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITED (Waterloo, CA)
  • Claim: 1. A method of managing messages at a mobile electronic device, the method comprising: receiving a first message, the message containing one or more recipient identifiers and a subject; controlling a display to generate a message interface comprising a representation of the first message; receiving a command from an input device, the command being a command to suppress subsequent messages related to the first message; selecting suppression criteria including the subject and at least one of the one or more recipient identifiers; receiving input data comprising at least one additional suppression criterion; and, suppressing the display of subsequently received messages based on the suppression criteria and the at least one additional suppression criterion.
  • Claim: 2. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the command to suppress subsequent messages comprises receiving input data representative of a selection of an element of the message interface.
  • Claim: 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising: following receipt of the command to suppress subsequent messages, controlling the display to generate a suppression interface comprising at least a subject field and a recipient field, and wherein selecting suppression criteria comprises automatically populating the subject and recipient fields.
  • Claim: 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one additional suppression criterion includes a number of subsequent messages to bypass prior to beginning suppression.
  • Claim: 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one additional criterion includes an expiry time for the suppression of messages.
  • Claim: 6. The method of claim 1, wherein suppressing the display of subsequently received messages includes transmitting a suppression request to a server, for causing the server not to deliver the subsequent messages.
  • Claim: 7. The method of claim 1, wherein suppressing the display of subsequently received messages comprises deleting the subsequent messages at the mobile electronic device.
  • Claim: 8. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the one or more recipient identifiers comprises an e-mail address.
  • Claim: 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the at least one e-mail address comprises a distribution list e-mail address.
  • Claim: 10. A mobile electronic device, comprising: an input device; a display; a communications interface; a memory; and, a processor interconnected with the input device, the display, the communications interface and the memory, the processor configured to receive a first message via the communications interface, the message containing one or more recipient identifiers and a subject; the processor further configured to control the display to generate a message interface comprising a representation of the first message; the processor further configured to receive a command from the input device, the command being a command to suppress subsequent messages related to the first message; the processor further configured to select suppression criteria including the subject and at least one of the one or more recipient identifiers; the processor further configured to receive input data comprising at least one additional suppression criterion; and, the processor further configured to suppress the display of subsequently received messages based on the suppression criteria and the at least one additional suppression criterion.
  • Claim: 11. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, the processor being further configured to receive the command to suppress subsequent messages by receiving input data representative of a selection of an element of the message interface.
  • Claim: 12. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, the processor being further configured: following receipt of the command to suppress subsequent messages, to control the display to generate a suppression interface comprising at least a subject field and a recipient field; to select suppression criteria by automatically populating the subject and recipient fields.
  • Claim: 13. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, wherein the at least one additional suppression criterion includes a number of subsequent messages to bypass prior to beginning suppression.
  • Claim: 14. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, wherein the at least one additional criterion includes an expiry time for the suppression of messages.
  • Claim: 15. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, the processor being further configured to suppress the display of subsequently received messages by transmitting a suppression request to a server, for causing the server not to deliver the subsequent messages.
  • Claim: 16. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, the processor being further configured to suppress the display of subsequently received messages by deleting the subsequent messages at the mobile electronic device.
  • Claim: 17. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, wherein at least one of the one or more recipient identifiers comprises an e-mail address.
  • Claim: 18. The mobile electronic device of claim 10, wherein the at least one e-mail address comprises a distribution list e-mail address.
  • Claim: 19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium for storing a plurality of computer-readable instructions executable by a processor, the computer-readable instructions for implementing a method comprising: receiving a first message, the message containing one or more recipient identifiers and a subject; controlling a display to generate a message interface comprising a representation of the first message; receiving a command from an input device, the command being a command to suppress subsequent messages related to the first message; selecting suppression criteria including the subject and at least one of the one or more recipient identifiers; receiving input data comprising at least one additional suppression criterion; and, suppressing the display of subsequently received messages based on the suppression criteria and the at least one additional suppression criterion.
