Outline hand colored lithographed map. Showing state and county boundaries, cities, towns, rivers, roads and railroads. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridians are Washington, D.C. and Greenwich.
With a geological map of the state, maps of all the counties, and H.H. Lloyd's maps of the States and Cuba from his Atlas of the United States (which is certain to be from a large wall map of the United States, since all the maps are on the same scale - probably "The Excelsior Map of the Untied States" listed in Karrow 1-1680, not seen by us). Warner, Higgins & Beers and Warner & Beers published many Illinois County Atlases combined in the same volume with this State Atlas from 1869 to 1875, although the State Atlas was only published separately in 1871 and 1872. In 1876 they made a complete revision of the State Atlas (see our #1159). Maps are hand painted in full color. Bound in half leather black cloth covered boards with "State Of Illinois Combined Town County State National And General Atlas. Warner, Higgins & Beers" stamped in gold on the front cover, and blind stamped on the back.
