The discussions surrounding the potential impact of technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence-based technologies, on strategic, operational, and tactical dimensions of future wars are a topic of interest. Some of these discussions propose that as artificial intelligence continues to evolve, not only the character but also the nature of the war will undergo substantial changes, suggesting that war in the future will experience a profound transformation. The distinction between the nature and the character of the war is blurred, making it challenging to comprehend the direction of artificial intelligence’s impact on the war. In this context, Carl von Clausewitz’s trinity regarding the nature and character of the war can be employed. While the trinity provides a framework for contemplating future wars, it also allows for an understanding of the transformative influence of artificial intelligence not on the nature but on the character of the war. Based on Clausewitz’s trinity, this study addresses the question of whether artificial intelligence is a technology that will change the nature of the war or will determine the structure of future wars by affecting the character of the war.
