Iontophoresis has been utilised to deliver medications in physical therapy for a long time, but its applications in treating diseases are still limited. This stemmed partly from its complicated and unsafe instrumentation as well as insufficient scientific evidence. Over the past decade, however, the design and safety aspects of iontophoresis devices have been dramatically improved. More importantly, various optimistic results were revealed from many scientific studies, especially its potential to actively transport large molecules and nanoparticles across the skin barrier that attracts great attention from both academia and industry. This paper aimed to review the advantages and disadvantages of the technique and representative transdermal enhancement studies using iontophoresis. ; Kỹ thuật điện di ion đã được ứng dụng trong vật lý trị liệu và phục hồi chức năng từ nhiều thập kỷ trước. Tuy nhiên, ứng dụng của nó trong các lĩnh vực điều trị khác còn rất hạn chế vì một số lý do như: thiết bị phức tạp, kém an toàn và thiếu bằng chứng khoa học đầy đủ. Trong hơn một thập kỷ gần đây, kỹ thuật này đã có những cải tiến vượt bậc về thiết kế và tính an toàn của thiết bị. Quan trọng hơn, những nghiên cứu ứng dụng kỹ thuật này trong việc tăng hấp thu thuốc qua da đã đạt được nhiều kết quả khả quan, cũng như đã chứng minh được tiềm năng trong việc bào chế thuốc hấp thu qua da có chứa các phân tử lớn và các tiểu phân nano. Trong bài báo này, nhóm tác giả trình bày tổng quan các ưu, nhược điểm của kỹ thuật điện di ion, những cải tiến thiết bị quan trọng và những phát hiện mới về ứng dụng của kỹ thuật này trong tăng cường vận chuyển thuốc qua da.
