International audience ; The burden of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and advanced fibrosis has not been reported so far at a nationwide level in Europe. According to a meta-analysis, the prevalence of NAFLD in European countries ranged from 4% to 50%, reflecting the heterogeneity of study populations. 1 The French CONSTANCES population-based cohort was designed as a large representative sample for age, gender, and socioeconomic status of the French adult population. 2 The present study was aimed to assess the prevalence of NAFLD and advanced fibrosis in the CONSTANCES cohort by using noninvasive markers, and to examine risk factors associated with these conditions.
