Almost 100% of rice production areas in Cambodia use direct-seeded rice (DSR), but the average productivity still needs to improve. Mechanized direct rice seeders (mDRS) could improve DSR production. However, challenges include limited access to high-quality seeds, high pressure from weed infestation, a shortage and high cost of mechanized service providers, and limited farmer knowledge. Provincial staff partners and machine service providers were trained on mDRS and associated DSR production technology and entrepreneurship. In addition, nine farmer field schools (FFS) and nine demonstration plots of best management practices for the mechanized DSR rice production system were set up in three target provinces with 225 farmers (86 females). Based on the results of field demonstrations, best management practices with mechanized DSR produced an average yield of 4,952 kg/ha with a range of 4,756 - 5,164 kg/ha providing 7-27% yield advance compared to farmers' practice.
