Social and community contexts influence how individuals live (Healthy People 2030, n.d.). In Burke County, North Carolina, mental health and substance misuse rank as the top concerns with high overdose deaths between 2012 and 2019 (Burke Wellness Initiative, 2023). There is insufficient mental health and substance use support for adolescents (10-19 years old). “Blue Ridge Connections: A Youth Wellness Initiative” (BRCS) program, addresses these challenges by providing summer youth wellness and afterschool programs during the academic year. The engagement plan includes a diverse set of stakeholders, with a steering committee to develop visions and goals for successful initiatives. In the proposed solution, methods to foster planning and implementation, sustainability, and conflict resolution have been included for relevant stakeholders.
