Environmental memories in the Ferlo ; Mémoires environnementales du Ferlo

International audience ; The Sahelian territory of Ferlo in Senegal, mainly inhabited since the 19th century by Fulani pastoralists, is particularly exposed to current environmental changes. In a territory that is already arid, drought and landscape transformations modify the adaptation strategies of the inhabitants. Thus, the Ferlo is a particularly interesting area for studying environmental memories, defined as representations of the environment and its interactions with human communities or individuals, during a past experience more or less close, lived or transmitted. The study of these memories follows, in particular, the observation of a forgetting of past environmental conditions by younger generations due to a lack of intergenerational transmission (generational environmental amnesia). This forgetfulness can lead to a greater acceptance of the degradation of natural spaces and environmental conditions (desertification, pollution.) because the previous conditions are no longer known. This project explores the different cultural, psychological and environmental factors that can promote environmental memories, or on the contrary, environmental amnesia. Finally, it explores the role of environmental memories in raising awareness of environmental protection and in the interest shown in restoration policies, particularly in the context of the Great Green Wall project. ; Le territoire sahélien du Ferlo au Sénégal, habité depuis le XIXème siècle par des pasteurs peuls, est particulièrement exposé aux changements environnementaux actuels.
