This is side A of the fourth tape from the annual Drucker Symposium of 1987. This recording is from the AM session of day two, on April 30, 1987. Sam Craig is the moderator. The topic for this section is, market segmentation: myths and realities. Drucker discusses changes in health care markets, financial markets, and specialized global markets. He also discusses decentralization in education and the change in value and labor hours of blue collar workers over time. Some important points he covers are what can lead to success and failure in marketing, what shoppers are looking for and the significance of knowing who are your non-customers. He also states that income is no longer the biggest motivation in the ways people spend their money.
