; when I decided to start my investigation in Niger in 2009, I was not sure that the country would experience the worst epidemic in the last fourteen years. A meningitis epidemic is not a recurrent situation, fortunately. For specialists, ‘major epidemics’ occur only every five to ten years (Greenwood, 1999: (344), time needed for the immunity of a group to be reduced and for certain populations to be at the mercy of a meningi epidemic.
