Rhodes, Greece ; In this interview Sarina Cohen recall the experience of coming to the United States on June 4, 1914. She passed through Ellis Island and then journeyed by train to Seattle. Sarina recounts the shops and stores of the Yesler Way area of Seattle, the birth of her five sons, and the Sephardic Jewish community. She also discusses the community fundraising efforts that took place in an effort to build a synagogue and the support of the Ashkenazi community in this endeavor. Salvatore Cohen originally immigrated to Montgomery, Alabama, but eventually followed his brothers Asher and Nissim Alhadeff to Seattle. The original interview is in Ladino with an English translation by the interviewer, Fannie Roberts.
