The purpose of this report is to outline the impressions of the army officers on duty in Germany as caused by the war up to the present date. Much of the Information transmitted in this report has been discussed in the daily conferences held in the office of the Military Attache in Berlin. It is with the thought that the Assistant Chief of Staff G-2 would like to know the opinions of the officers and observers on duty in Berlin that this preliminary report of lessons is prepared and sent forward. This report is based on information obtained from the German Combat Estimate, the German Combat Digest, previous reports in the files, conversations with colleagues in the Corps of Attaches, conversations with Colleagues in the Corps of Attaches, conversations with and impressions gained from German officers, soldiers, and other officials, form studying newsreels, newspapers and magazines, from the study of photographs, and from listening to the radio reports. It is emphasized that for some of the statements in this report there is no direct proof. The subject matter has been carefully considered and discussed and it represents the best judgement and opinion of the War Department personnel stationed in Berlin.
