L’Arc de Triomphe et les Champs-Élysées comme signifiants politiques et littéraires : Une approche comparatiste des romans sur Mai 68 ; Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysed as political and literary significance: A comparative approach to novels on May 68

The urban elements (streets, squares, buildings, monuments.) can be understood as signifiers of a broader social discourse, whose meanings are conditioned by that more general framework, as by their physical characteristics and the events that they relate to (whose meanings turn out to be conditioned by both the more general frame and the physical characteristics of the city ; and the events they are related to).Some of these elements behave ideologically as they do what the Argentine theorist Ernesto Laclau calls "floating signifiers". These ones are abstract signifiers whose meaning is not fully given, but which depend on the balances of forces of the Society in which they are integrated. In times of crisis, as with the abstract signifiers that identify the same society, urban signifiers are especially vulnerable to the confrontation between the different social actors.On the pages that follow, our target is to study the events of May 68 in Paris through their spatial development, and through the discursive confrontation that it implies. We will pay special attention to one of the fundamental places of the city such as the Arc de triomphe and the Champs Élysées. As a fundamental part in the reception of this historical account, we will illustrate our analysis with some literary representations of the events. ; Les éléments urbains (rues, places, édifices, monuments) peuvent être compris comme les signifiants d'un discours social plus large.
