Wuhan, China ; C. C. received his B. S. in C. E. (1950) from the National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, China and M. S. in Structures (1955) from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. After working on bridge design for a few years in Kansas City and New York, he joined the Structures Project of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company in Seattle, Washington in 1961. In 1962, C. C. was selected to work in the Aero-Performance Group for two year (contribution-727 FAA aerodynamic performance certification program), before he requested to be transferred to the Structural Dynamics Group. At the same time, he accumulated 48 engineering graduate credits from the University of Washington and Seattle University. In his 34 years at Boeing, Tien participated in the analyses and testing of 707, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 models and in airplane conceptual studies of many others. C.C. was recognized as the top specialist in the field of aero-elasticity at Boeing. He was the president of Chinese Institute of Engineers, USA/ Seattle in 1974 and also in 1994. In 1996, C.C. formed a group in Seattle to join the Global Alliance for Preserving the History of WWII in Asia and has participated in many of its activities of in U.S. and China over the years. After retiring from Boeing, he has volunteered at Seattle Senior Rights Assistance of Senior Services for 2 years and also the King County Municipal League to interview and rate candidates for elective offices for a few years. Tien also served 2 terms on Washington State- “Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment” from 1998-2002. At different times from 2001 to 2009, he has served as chairman or president of the Society of Chinese-American Aerospace Engineers, which has co-sponsored many technical conferences with its counterpart societies in Taiwan and Mainland China.
