Poem composed and recited by Joseph Page. ; Collected by Mary Celestia Parler Composed and recited by Mr. Joseph Page Treat, Ark. April 15, 1954 Reel 197 Item 5 World War II In nineteen hundred and forty-one World War II had just begun, All Americans will remember That treacherous outrage in December. They stole through the dark like a thief in the night, Not giving our boys any chance to fight. Some were awake, some were asleep, But all went down in the ocean deep. This was done without any warning, So we declared war the very next morning. The nation was aroused to its greatest strength, And for revenge we all were bent. Every boy and every man Was ready to fight Germany and Japan. Now it makes no difference where they're found, In the air of on the ground, We'll shoot of a day and bomb of a night, We'll shoot as long as one's in sight. We'll bomb the islands and take them first, For Japanese blood we all do thirst. We'll then be willing and ready to go Straight to the gates of Tokio. Cur guns will pop and our planes will roar Till Tokio will be no More. You have heard my story, and it shall all be true; We'll get Tojo and Hitler too. ; Funding for digitization provided by the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Happy Hollow Foundation.
