Two distinct structural phases in Sr<subscript>3−x</subscript>Ca<subscript>x</subscript>Ru<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>y</subscript>

Non-cuprate layered perovskite Sr 2 RuO 4 , which is an analogue of (La,Sr) 2 CuO 4 , exhibits superconductivity below T c ˜1K. We have synthesized a new system Sr 3-x Ca x Ru 2 O y and found the solubility of Ca to be at least as much as x = 2. These samples are not superconductive down to 2K but magnetically ordered. The x dependence of the lattice parameters and that of T mag clearly indicate that there are at least two distinct structural phases in Sr 3-x Ca x Ru 2 O y .
