The separate spheres of life -- work, home, family and free-time -- are supposed to integrate in the post-industrial society. In this article, the manifestations of work as a life sphere are analyzed through interviews of 23 home-working employees, self-employed entrepreneurs and farm workers. In agriculture, home-based work has always been an everyday practice; in contrast, telework is a modern option for wage earners. The interviewees interpret work as a life sphere through three repertoires. First, according to a permissive repertoire, work can be natural, everyday part of life, independent of time and place. The second repertoire considers work negatively, and regards it as a threat to free-time and family, thus placing needs and practices into conflict. In the third interpretation, this conflict is actively resolved in a learning-by-living process. Life spheres are re-organized into a balanced and satisfactory combination through active management of conflicts. The results of the present analysis suggest that conceptions of work do not differ by occupation, which is worth remembering when planning new working life research data collections -- integrated data should be used for analysis more often. On the other hand, different life situations, particularly family life with children and the amount of work limit the fulfillment of individual desires in everyday life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
