The article discusses the founding and history of the African labor university Université Ouvrière Africaine de Guinée (UOA) in Guinea from 1960 to 1965. It is noted that it was established in 1959 under the initiative of the general workers' union of Black Africa Union Générale des Travailleurs d'Afrique Noire (UGTAN) and the World Federation of Trade Unions (FSM). It being managed by activist and member of the French trade union Confédération générale du travail (CGT) Maurice Gastaud with Guinean President Sékou Touré as its secretary general is also discussed. Topics include its education geared toward future executives and trade union executives, the Cold War context in which it was created, and the political views of its students, or interns.
