Objective: The present study was conducted to apply the Billings Ovulation Method on women who wanted to use the method either to become pregnant or as contraception, and to evaluate the results.Method: The study, which was based on multipurposedescriptive characteristics, was alongitudinal study including analyzing points. The study population consisted of 31 individuals wanting to learn about and use the method, out of 6185 individuals who applied to the family planning (FP) unit for FP consultation at a university hospital in a province in the Marmara region within two years during which the study was conducted. The women were allowed to use the method after they were provided consultation on the method and following minimum three follow-up consultations. The data were collected using the "Personal Information Form", "Fertility information Assessment Form" and "Discharge Observation Schedule." In the analysis of the data, percentage and "t" test were used. Approval from the institution and written consent from the women were obtained for the study. Results: Of the women, 54.4% were between 30 and 34 years of age, 77.4% received education for ?12 years, and 74.2% were working. Twenty-two women wanted to use the method for contraception, while nine wanted it to become pregnant. Two of nine women who wanted to use the method to become pregnant were successful, two withdrew from the study, and five were sent to the infertility polyclinics as they were unable to become pregnant even if they tried it for at least three cycles. Nineteen women successfully used the method to prevent pregnancy. Seventeen of them were still using the method two years after the study was completed. There was a highly significant difference between total information scores of the women before and after they received consultation about the method (t=13.52,p<0.001). It was determined that the fertility awareness of all women completing their followupconsultations showed an increase to a significant extent. Conclusion: Billings Ovulation Method is a demanded method when suggested as a choice in family planning clinics, as well as being a method that can be used for contraception or to become pregnant when taught by a qualified nurse, besides increasing fertility awareness in women.
