A biography of American musician, author, and poet Sidney Lanier is presented. He was born in Macon, Georgia in 1842 and graduated from University of Oglethorpe prior to the U.S. Civil War. He entered military service for the Confederate States of America during the War, served aboard blockade runners, and was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, Maryland. He was hired by the Peabody Orchestra in Baltimore, Maryland and married Mary Day in 1867. He died of tuberculosis in 1881.
