An encyclopedia entry for Ida Cohen Rosenthal, Jewish co-founder of Maidenform, is presented. Born in Rakov, Russia on January 9, 1886, Rosen was the eldest of seven children. She studied Russian and mathematics in Warsaw, Poland. After moving to the U.S., Rosenthal established a shop in Hoboken, New Jersey and supported herself as a dressmaker. Particular focus is given to the genesis of Maidenform, along with its growth. Both Rosenthal and her husband were involved in several Jewish causes including the United Jewish Appeal.
