The article focuses on the role of unofficial art during the post-war period in Estonia. It states that the regeneration process of art can be considered as the beginning of the creation of defence mechanisms in art. Such a process allows an artist to create the image of their country's art to differ from Socialist Realism. The difference between activists and mainstream artists has changed according to different situations and times. From the end of 1960, a new generation of artists began to write about alternative forms of art and unofficial art.
