A biography of Loyalist Captain John Saunders is presented. Born June 1, 1753 in Princess Anne County, Virginia, Saunders' lost both parents before he was twenty years old. With the help of a friendly neighbor who married his older sister, Saunders was able to gain an education while his family estate thrived in his absence. He later distinguished himself by publicly denouncing resistance to British Law and answered Virginia royal governor John Murray's call to arms for the British.
