The article looks at the history of Tallinn in the 16th and 17th centuries which stands out for its numerous internal conflicts. Under Swedish rule in 1561 to 1710, Tallin was exhausted by the permanent state of war in the country and the plague years at the beginning and in the middle of the 17th century. The leaning of mercantile system towards Sweden was unfavorable. It says the intercommunity tensions in Tallinn were revealed acutely after the Russian-Swedish War of 1656-1661 and the 1657 plague. The 1662 conflict with the seven clergymen of the town was certainly a marginal concern for the city council in comparison with its troubles with more powerful groups of merchants and craftsmen.
