The article focuses on the panel paintings which depict the Crusading Window at the abbey church of Saint-Denis in the twelfth-century in France. It provides a comparison on the stained glass engravings of the 12 medallions published by Bernard de Montfaucon with the medallion collections of Raymond Pitcairn. It states that Montfaucon's engravings focus on the pilgrimage of the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Charlemagne to the East and illustrates events during the First Crusade. Meanwhile, Pitcairn's collections show a king in the midst of an army as well figures seated in groups with the other members holding palms. The paintings depict scenes of the historical events during the First Crusade as well as human history.
