This article profiles poet Rupert Brook. Brooke was born on August 3, 1887 in Warwickshire, England. At his death, Brooke was a promising poet who is part of England's genuine lost generation of World War I. He is perhaps most famous for a sonnet, The Soldier, written in 1915, which expresses the patriotic fervor that greeted the beginning of that war. His earlier poems represent experimentation and skill clearly as competent as that in Thomas' or Owen's early poems.
