Russias invasion of Ukraine has prompted anthropologists, ethnologists, and folklorists in the country to capture and ac-cumulate war-related material. Some of them have undertaken empirical research in the digital online space, while others have participated in war-related events, describing and analysing them according to the methodologies applied in their disciplines. When planning larger-scale research and interviews with people who have suffered the traumas of war, scientists are faced with ethical dilemmas. Do they have the right to do nothing in the current situation? On the other hand, is the recording of conversations with people who have left their homes and are traumatised, ethical during the ongoing war? We present a discussion organised by the Centre for Ukrainian Culture and Ethnography and the University of Alberta, "The Ethnography of the War? Articulating Research Needs in Times of Unfolding Trauma," between Dr Natalia Khanenko-Friesen, Dr Maryna Hrymych, Dr Oksana Kis, and Dr Oksana Kuzmenko. Also included are the presentations given by the anthropologists Dr Julija Bujskich and Dr Tina Polek, about their research on daily life during war time and social media information, presented at the seminar "Anthropologists at War" at the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore of the University of Tartu.
