Henkes (°1955) will officially take leave as a university lecturer at the University of Groningen. In the 1970s she studied history and criminology there. Afterwards she worked in various jobs as a journalist-publicist and as a scientific researcher, mostly in the Netherlands but also in Germany. In 1995 she received a doctorate in history from the University of Amsterdam. From 2005, the historian living in the Dutch capital was associate professor in the Contemporary History Department of her Groningen alma mater. In recent years she has lectured there on political and cultural transfer in the age of imperialism and decolonisation, oral history, cultural history and political culture. Barbara Henkes has published on women's history, migration history, oral history, biographical research, the Second World War and during the past decade especially on the relationship between the Netherlands and South Africa and the involvement of the Netherlands in slavery. This contribution is a reflection of the interview I conducted with her in the fall of 2021. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
