This article focuses on a survey of marketing-driven technology companies in the United States conducted by the Technology Marketing Group (TMG), Acton, Massachusetts-based marketing consulting firm. TMG found that high-performing technology firms: Search widely for new markets and new applications that place a high value on the company's technologies and capabilities; Concentrate on the core technological skills of the company as a primary source of added value; Invest to enhance those value-added skills progressively; Lead or dominate their areas of influence, such as in markets, applications, and technologies. During a two-year period, TMG studied 300 companies with more than $25 million in revenues in nine basic measures of performance.
