The article describes some of the technical, military, and political considerations on the choices faced by the U.S. and its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization regarding chemical weapons. American policy concerning chemical weapons appears to be nearing at crossroads. It is because the nation is torn between the prohibition of chemical weapons by the Geneva Protocol of 1925 and the limitation of its utility for retaliation in case other nations will violate the agreement.
