The incidence of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) has increased in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso since 1996. A study was carried out from September to November 2000 to determine the impact of HIV on this outbreak. Of 74 CL patients, 10 were co-infected with HIV. The percentage of CL in patients positive for HIV was slightly higher than the percentage of HIV patients in Ouagadougou. However, the study showed that HIV infection did not increase the risk of CL infection. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
