A recent study conducted by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, has discovered novel fusion enzymes with chorismate mutase (CM) and cyclohexadienyl dehydratase (CDT) activity. These enzymes are involved in the biosynthesis of l-phenylalanine (Phe) and are found in only nine bacterial species. The study found that the fusion enzymes may participate in signaling systems rather than in the biosynthesis of Phe. The research provides valuable insights into the structure and function of these enzymes and their potential role in cellular processes. [Extracted from the article]
