A study conducted at Southwest Medical University in Luzhou, China, examined the effectiveness of S100 calcium-binding protein A12 (S100A12) combined with the modified early warning score (MEWS) in diagnosing adult community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The researchers found that serum S100A12 levels increased with higher MEWS scores, and there was a significant correlation between S100A12 levels and mechanical ventilation and mortality rates. The study concluded that serum S100A12 combined with MEWS has a high clinical value in evaluating the severity and prognosis of adult CAP. This research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Thoracic Disease. [Extracted from the article]
