A recent study conducted at Federal University Ceara in Brazil explored the effects of maternal treatment with aripiprazole (APZ) on neurodevelopmental behaviors in juvenile male mice exposed to valproic acid (VPA), a known inducer of autism-like behavior. The researchers found that APZ treatment significantly prevented deficits in social interactions, communication, and working memory in the mice. Additionally, APZ protected against synaptic plasticity and neuronal damage in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. These findings suggest that APZ may be an effective pharmacological treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and warrant further investigation for clinical relevance. [Extracted from the article]
