Since visible light communication systems provide both illumination and data transmission at the same time, it is important to adjust the dimming level. In order to adjust the dimming level, the variable pulse position modulation, which is one of the modulation-based methods, is preferred. In addition to changing the duty cycle of the signal, changing the power level by using analog method is one of the methods to change the dimming level. In this work, the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of the variable pulse amplitude position modulation (VPAPM) method has been investigated by considering the distance between the receiver and the transmitter. In addition to investigation of BER, the change of the actual dimming level according to the target dimming level was evaluated in case of sequential low or high power spread. Moreover, a comparison is achieved between the bit error rate obtained in sequential low or high power transmissions and the bit error rate obtained in transmissions at target dimming level for average power level. According to the comparison results, the bit error rate performance obtained in sequential high power transmissions gives a better result than the bit error rate performance obtained in the transmissions made at the target dimming level, while the bit error rate performance of the transmissions made at the sequential low power level is lower than the transmissions made at the target dimming level. performance has been observed.
