A recent study conducted at EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia, has explored the use of prescriptive models based on machine learning to support clinical decision-making. The researchers developed predictive models using fuzzy cognitive maps and the particle swarm optimization algorithm, and then extended these models with genetic algorithms to create prescriptive models. The study evaluated the effectiveness of these models in three case studies related to monitoring, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The results showed that the developed models were able to estimate warfarin doses, prescribe treatment for severe dengue, and generate actions for the prevention of geohelminthiasis. However, further validation in health institutions is needed before implementing these models. [Extracted from the article]
