Google is changing its Maps tool to no longer have access to users' individual location histories, preventing the company from responding to law enforcement warrants that request data on individuals near a crime. The change comes after a Bloomberg investigation revealed that police were using warrants to obtain location and search data from Google, even for nonviolent cases. The update will gradually roll out over the next year on Android and iOS operating systems, and users will be notified when the update is available. While this change is seen as a win for privacy rights, concerns remain about other types of warrants, such as reverse keyword search warrants. [Extracted from the article]
