A recent study conducted at the University of Brescia in Italy examined the effectiveness of UVA1 phototherapy in treating various skin disorders. The researchers reviewed the medical records of 740 patients treated between 1998 and 2022 and found that UVA1 phototherapy showed marked improvement or complete remission in patients with certain conditions such as morphea, urticaria pigmentosa, granuloma annulare, and skin sarcoidosis. However, the study also revealed that UVA1 therapy was often ineffective for rare diseases. The researchers concluded that while UVA1 phototherapy remains a valuable treatment option for specific skin disorders, it has been overshadowed by cheaper and more practical alternatives such as narrow-band UVB phototherapy and new drugs.
