Stigma in health professionals is an object of study that is receiving more attention, due to the key role they play in the recovery process, as well as in the implementation of interventions and the dissemination of mental health conditions encompassed by the concept of Serious Mental Disorder. The objective of this article is to carry out a systematic review of the research that addresses stigma in health professionals to know the current state of knowledge on this subject. The results point to complex relationships that are part of the phenomenon of stigma. On the one hand, due to the presence of stigma (beliefs, emotions, and discriminatory behaviors) in health professionals, as well as relationships between this stigma and care practices. On the other hand, they also show professionals as objects of stigmatization and the stressful consequences of stigma in the exercise of their profession. Finally, a last category emerges that shows professionals as agents of destigmatization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
El estigma en profesionales de la salud es un objeto de estudio al que se le está prestando mayor atención. Esto debido al papel clave que desempeñan en el proceso de recuperación, así como en la implementación de intervenciones y difusión de las condiciones de salud mental que engloba el concepto Trastorno Mental Grave. El objetivo de este artículo es realizar una revisión sistemática de las investigaciones que abordan el estigma en profesionales de la salud para conocer el estado de conocimiento actual en este tema. Entre marzo y abril de 2022 se realizó una búsqueda y selección de artículos que estuvieran publicados en el período 2000-2021 en las bases de datos Scopus, Web of Science, PsycNet, PubMed y SAGE Journals, obteniéndose un total de 46 artículos (16 en Europa, 15 en América, 9 en Asia, 3 en África y 3 en Oceanía). Los resultados señalan relaciones complejas que forman parte del fenómeno del estigma. Por un lado, por la presencia de estigma (creencias, emociones y conductas discriminatorias) en los/as profesionales de la salud, así como relaciones entre este estigma y las prácticas de atención. Por otro lado, también muestran a los/as profesionales como objeto de estigmatización y las consecuencias estresoras del estigma en el ejercicio de su profesión. Finalmente, emerge una última categoría que muestra a los profesionales como agentes de desestigmatización. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
