Therefore, it is clear that in contrast to the colonial approaches where the museum was detached from local communities, the I Ngoda i exhibition made the museum an institution of public pedagogy and an agent of social change. It extends the ongoing debates in museum and heritage studies on how museums and heritage sites in Africa and other post-colonial societies can transform themselves conceptually by rethinking their museological practices to render themselves relevant to the communities that they serve. Through presenting different heritage initiatives and projects at Mutare Museum and at some archaeological sites under Mutare Museum in Eastern Zimbabwe, Njabulo Chipangura and Jesmael Mataga demonstrate how African museums and management at heritage sites can be decolonised.
