We examine changes in the occupational structure of Finland in the light of two hypotheses. The Skills-Biased Technology Change Hypothesis (SBTC) states that technological development is leading to a growth in high-skill occupations and a decline in low-skill occupations. The Routine-Biased Technology Change Hypothesis (RBTC) differs from SBTC by claiming that the decline focuses particularly on intermediate-skill occupations, leading to a polarization of the labour market. From these alternatives, we derive five more detailed hypotheses, which we test with the help of Statistics Finland's Labour Force Survey separately among all wage-earners, by sector and in manufacturing in 2002-2016, dividing occupations at three-digit level (ISCO) into five equally sized payroll groups. The change in the labour market has been more in line with the SBTC hypothesis within the wage-earner population as a whole and within the public and manufacturing sectors, while the private sector as a whole shows signs of polarization. The study suggests that the logic of change varies across sectors and industries. This will justify more detailed analyses in the future. The results also reveal a need to investigate changes in the occupational structure with a more detailed classification model than the typically used three-level classification for high, intermediate and low-skill occupations. Tutkimme ammattirakenteen muutosta Suomessa kahden hypoteesin valossa. Osaamispainotteinen teknologian muutos -hypoteesin (SBTC) mukaan teknologinen kehitys on viime vuosina johtanut korkean osaamisen ammattien kasvuun ja matalan osaamisen ammattien vähenemiseen. Rutiinipainotteinen teknologian muutos -hypoteesi (RBTC) eroaa edellisestä korostaessaan vähenemisen kohdistuneen erityisesti keskitason osaamisen ammatteihin, mikä on johtanut työmarkkinoiden polarisoitumiseen. Johdamme näistä viisi yksityiskohtaisempaa hypoteesia. Testaamme hypoteeseja erikseen Tilastokeskuksen työvoimatutkimuksesta johdetussa koko palkansaaja-aineistossa, sektoreittain ja yksityisen sektorin sisällä teollisuudessa vuosina 2002-2016 jakamalla ammatit kolminumerotasolla (ISCO) Tilastokeskuksen palkkarakennetilaston tietojen pohjalta viiteen yhtä suureen ryhmään ansiotason perusteella.
