Hantavirus infections, which became a current issue during the last years in our country, are zoonotic infections that are transmitted through aerosols from chronically infected rodent excreta, and occasionally through rodent bites. In Europe, there are endemic regions, where the disease is seen with increasing prevalence and intermittent outbreaks due to variations in rodent populations. In our country, sporadic cases were reported following the first outbreak in Zonguldak-Bartın region in 2009, consisting of 25 cases, out of which 12 were serologically identified to Pumaala subtype. 2009. In the present study, we report the case of a patient, who was admitted to our clinic with fever and gastroenteritis, having mild thrombocytopenia but not renal involvement. The 45- years old women had been suspected of having H1N1 influenza, however the H1N1 tests were negative. When a renal failure developed, hantavirus infection was considered. Serum sample of the patient was sent to National Reference Virology Laboratory for IFA (Hantavirus Mosaic-1, Euroimmun, Germany), which revealed hantavirus IgM and IgG antibodies ≥1: 100 titer. Positive results were also obtained by the immunoblot test (Hantavirus Profile 1 EUROLINE IgG and IgM, Euroimmun, Germany). In the case of the present patient, Hantavirus Dobrava subtype seropositivity was determined by two tests. In conclusion clinicians especially those working in the Black sea , should be aware of possible hantavirus infections in patients with fever and thrombocytopenia, admitted to hospitals, even if they do not suffer from renal insufficiency. Refik Saydam Hጟzıssıhha Merkezi Başkanlığı Viroloji Referans ve Araştırma Laboratuvarına gonderilen serum örneğinde İndirekt immunfloresans assay (IFA) yöntemi (Hantavirus Mosaic-1; Euroimmun, Almanya) ile hantavirus Dobrava IgM ve IgG antikorları ≥ 1: 100 titrede pozitif bulunmuş ve bu sonuç immunoblot (IB) yöntemiyle de (Hantavirus Profile 1 EUROLINE IgG ve IgM; Euroimmun, Almanya) doğrulanmıştır.
