The article examines four Hebrew poems about King Saul from the point of view of the semiotics culture, written by Amir Gilboa, Yehuda Amichai, Nathan Zach and Meir Wieseltier. Topics addressed include disucssion of the cultural implications of the texts individually and as a group, the intracanonic relationships between the poems, and the presentation of the ideational atmosphere of a culture over a particular period of time.
