This word present the study of two rock samples (FF1 and FF2) from Tres Esquinas Member, La Luna formation Venezuela, by petrography analysis, mineralogical and chemical composition (majors and trace elements) and electron microprobe analysis (EPMA). The chemical composition obtained is dominated by Ca, P and Si. The normalization of major elements concentration with respect to the PAAS (Post Archean Average Shale) indicates enrichment in U, associated to redox conditions in the sedimentation environment and their accumulation in phosphorites. TOC suggest a greater contribution and/or preservation of the organic matter during the sedimentation in FF1 with respect to FF2. The spatial distribution of major and trace elements was used to determine inter-elemental associations between Ca, P and O (fluoroapatite) and Si and O (quartz), S and Ba (barite) or S and Fe (pyrite). The sedimentation environment of the samples present variations in the oxygen availability, suggesting dysoxic to suboxic conditions during the sedimentation, that allowed the presence of sulphate (SO4=) for the formation of barite (BaSO4) and anoxic microenvironments that allowed the formation of pyrite (FeS2). Analysis of elemental maps, determine their spatial distributions and presence of minerals not detected by ray-x diffraction. This enabled us to infer with more accurately the redox conditions in the sedimentation environment. These results show the usefulness of chemical analyses in whole rock, together with EPMA, in the detailed study of this rock type. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
