The phase transitions in uranyl borates M(UOBO) (M = Li, Na) were studied by high-temperature X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis. The thermal expansion coefficients of these compounds were determined. A reversible polymorphous transition, not accompanied by changes in the unit cell symmetry, was revealed in the Li derivative. The thermal expansion coefficients of β-Li(UOBO) are 3-10 times higher than those of the α-modification, and α changes sign and becomes positive. The anisotropy of the thermal expansion of the phases studied is determined by the structure of the layers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
