The article reports on a study which analyzed the proportion of herpes simplex virus HSV-1 and -2 in genital infections during 9 year period in Finnish sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinic population. The authors of the study analyzed the proportion of HSV-1 or -2 positive culture samples from STD clinic patients with genital herpes. The results showed that the hike of genital infections caused by HSV-1 was mainly the result of the hike in the number of female patients with HSV-1.
