Sport films are both popular and instrumental in encouraging children and teenagers to engage in sport. Movie advisory boards are the entities entrusted with the responsibility of informing the public which age groups can watch films. Sport films rated as PG and PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), were assessed for the warnings this board assigned to them, the age classifications and warnings given to them, by the Australian Classification Board (ACB), and their genres. It was found that the majority of MPAA's PG rated sport films were assigned a more restrictive age classification by ACB, while ACB was more lenient in the case of MPAA's PG-13 rated sport films. The dominant warnings these boards attached to MPAA's PG rated sport films are different from those attached to PG-13 rated sport films, suggesting differing cultural sensitivities when it comes to these films. As for film genres, comedies, action, and adventure sport films are more common than dramatic and biographical sport films, in both PG and PG-13 rated sport films. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
