Many undesirable things have been said about being a Waray because of the influence of media such as television shows and movies and even the news. Among the stereotypes that others ascribe to them are that they are brave, obnoxious, and frightening. This can be related to the courage that the Waray holds as their cultural identity as shaped by time, situation, and events. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a deep understanding of their disposition that is embodied in two qualities they possess, the ilob (endurance) and the isog (courage) through metaphorizing the folk song "Lawiswis Kawayan." By looking at their deep connection with kawayan (bamboo), its modifier lawiswis (rustling), and the content of the song, it will be evident that they use these two qualities to help strengthen society and establish a good relationship with others. The comfort a Waray gives their neighbor is a gift that will sustain and extend life and enable them to attain progress and honor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
