There has been an increase in the number of Africans entering Malaysia for various reasons. Among the popular reasons include education and tourism. Due to the increase of inflow of African communities in Malaysia, they are also getting coverage in the local media for activities surrounding them. Past literatures have stated that there have been negative portrayals of Africans in various forms of media. This study aims at understanding how local media portrays Africans in Malaysia. The study uses the agenda setting theory in understanding media content and what is being portrayed. A content analysis study was conducted on Berita Harian articles that were published throughout the year 2013. The sections covered were on main news and news and issues inside the country except for sports and feature writing. Based on the study, out of the 69 articles published related to Africans in Malaysia, more than 90% of the news are negative and focused towards issues relating to drugs and fraud.
